These popular, illustrated storybooks, newly revised, each approximately sixteen pages long, use words containing the phonetic elements taught in the workbooks. As soon as students have learned the short vowel a, taught in the first pages of Workbook 1, they can read the first storybook, Mac and Tab. Each story contains only those words learned in the workbooks being studied. There is a set of ten storybooks to go with each of the first six workbooks; the storybooks can also be used independently. Students who are learning to read enjoy the feeling of satisfaction that comes from being able to read a whole book independently.
Primary Phonics Workbooks
The newly revised workbooks are progressive in difficulty, with constant review to reinforce previously learned material.
Used in combination with the storybooks, Primary Phonics introduces reading comprehension at the earliest level of phonetic understanding.
Workbook 1: Reviews the consonants and introduces short vowels and fifteen sight words.
Workbook 2: Introduces long vowels and vowel digraphs.
Workbook 3: Introduces plurals, initial and final blends, compound words, two-syllable words, and an additional sight word.
Workbook 4: Introduces additional consonant blends, words with a vowel followed by r, and consonant digraphs. Once students have completed Workbook 4, they should be able to read, write, and spell simple words.
Workbook 5: Continues practice with plural forms, compound and two-syllable words, and introduces new vowel digraphs.
Workbook 6: Continues practice in plural forms, compound words, and two-syllable words. New consonant sounds and diphthongs are introduced: hard and soft c and g, dge, ph, ie, oi, oy, igh, ow, and au.
